Millstone Hill and The Girl

Summit Snack II
Millstone Hill summit
A glorious September day on Millstone hill..

Millstone Hill is another of the local Marilyns. Its excellent network of pathways are maintained by the Forestry Commission and the Bailies of Bennachie. The track starts from the Donview car park and winds its way steeply up through the forestry via a succession of wooden and stone steps.

Big Steps
Ascending the Steps of Doom
Approximately half way up, there is a break in the trees which provides a fine viewpoint over to Cairn William and out towards Alford.

Half-Way II
Half-way Refreshments
On arrival at the summit, the view is dominated by the most prominent peak of Bennachie - Mither Tap. If you are four years old, contents of the puddles which lie on the ice-smoothed granite tors are of greater interest.

Distractions II
The puddle is infinitely more interesting than the view!

The summit cairn is is a little shorter now.

Summit Snack I

There is an option for a circular route back to the car park which descends the eastern side of the hill, past the ominously named Scare Hill.
